Police are searching for Daniel Boakye, 21, after he absconded from custody at Lewisham Hospital in south-east London, marking his second escape in less than a week.
Boakye, an inmate at HMP Feltham, was receiving medical treatment when he fled at around 15:05 on Sunday, 15 February. The Metropolitan Police said officers gave chase but were unable to detain him before he left the building.
A spokesperson said Boakye is 21, Black, of medium height and slim build, and was wearing grey tracksuit bottoms and a dark Nike jacket at the time of his escape. The Met confirmed its Directorate of Professional Standards has been notified and the incident is under review.
Boakye had previously escaped from West Middlesex University Hospital last Tuesday before being arrested in Thamesmead on Wednesday. Following that arrest, two women aged 20 and 51, a 17-year-old girl and a 30-year-old man were held on suspicion of assisting an offender.
In July 2023, Boakye was jailed for six years and five months for a series of knifepoint robberies across London carried out between June 2021 and January 2022. The gang stole more than £155,000 in cryptocurrency by threatening victims and forcing them to hand over phones and passcodes.
Boakye is due to be deported to Ghana upon completion of his sentence. Government sources previously said his removal from the UK was being actively pursued.
