A murder investigation has been launched after a man died in hospital days after being seriously injured in an alleged attack in Keighley, West Yorkshire.
The victim, Suhail Choudry, 35, was found with serious head injuries on Flasby Street in the early hours of Sunday, 8 February. Police were called to the scene at around 3.14am.
He was taken to hospital for treatment but died on 11 February.
West Yorkshire Police said Mr Choudry had been assaulted by a group armed with bats and sticks in the area around East Avenue. Two other men, aged 21 and 24, were also injured but did not suffer serious harm.
A 27-year-old man, who was initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, has now been re-arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.
A second man, aged 30, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and has been released on bail pending further enquiries. A third man, aged 33, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and has also been bailed.
A large police cordon has remained in place on Flasby Street in Keighley, with forensic officers continuing their work at the scene.
Detective Chief Inspector Matt Holdsworth, from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said detectives were carrying out extensive enquiries following the man’s death.
He said: “We have a team of officers working to establish the full circumstances of this incident, which has now tragically resulted in the loss of life.”
Police have increased patrols in the area and are appealing for witnesses. Officers are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area during the early hours of Sunday.
