A teenage boy has been arrested after a girl was stabbed at a secondary school near Norwich, prompting a major police response and lockdown of the campus.
Norfolk Police said officers were called to Thorpe St Andrew School on Laundry Lane at about 10:24am following reports that a teenage girl had been stabbed.
Emergency services including armed police, ambulance crews and fire services attended the scene while the school was placed into lockdown.
Pupils were instructed to remain in classrooms, hide under desks and switch off their phones as teachers barricaded doors while officers searched for the suspect.
Police drones were deployed as officers conducted searches around the school grounds.
The victim, who is understood to be a pupil at the school, was taken to hospital with injuries described by police as minor and not life-threatening.
A 16-year-old boy was later arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.
Parents gathered outside the school during the incident after hearing reports of the stabbing on social media, with some demanding information from officers about their children’s safety.
Norfolk Police said the incident is not believed to be connected to allegations of antisemitic abuse reported during a youth football tournament at the same school the previous week.
Thorpe St Andrew School, an 11-18 secondary school with a sixth form, remained under lockdown while police continued their enquiries.
