A tragic explosion in Balochistan’s Pishin district on Saturday resulted in the deaths of two children and a woman, while 13 others, including two policemen, were injured. The blast occurred in the main market near Surkhab Chowk, close to the Pishin deputy commissioner’s office, as confirmed by hospital officials.

The explosion, suspected to have been caused by explosives planted on a motorcycle, caused significant damage to three vehicles and created chaos in the crowded marketplace. The injured were initially treated at Pishin Civil Hospital, with 13 critically wounded individuals later transferred to the Quetta Trauma Centre, where the woman succumbed to her injuries.

Pishin City Station House Officer (SHO) Mujibur Rehman reported that the two injured policemen are in critical condition. The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and the Bomb Disposal Squad have arrived at the scene to collect evidence and conduct a detailed investigation into the incident.

This attack is part of a worrying trend of violence targeting security forces and officials, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, following the end of a ceasefire agreement between the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the government in 2022. The region has seen a surge in such attacks in recent weeks, with similar incidents reported in the Noshki and Kech districts.

Last month, another blast in Pishin targeted a Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) vehicle, injuring several CTD officials and pedestrians. These recurring attacks highlight the escalating threat posed by militant groups in the region, particularly those affiliated with the TTP.

Authorities are continuing to assess the situation and have urged the public to remain vigilant. The investigation into the latest blast is ongoing, with security agencies working to identify those responsible.
