A helicopter has crashed in a field on the Isle of Wight, prompting a major emergency response.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said they were called at 09:24 BST on Sunday to reports that an aircraft had come down near the A3020 Shanklin Road.
A police spokesperson said: “We were called at 09:24 to a report that a helicopter had come down in a field near the A3020 Shanklin Road. The road is closed due to the number of emergency services vehicles at the scene, so please avoid the area at this time.”
The A3020 has been closed to traffic while fire, ambulance and police services remain at the scene.
Authorities have not yet confirmed how many people were onboard the helicopter or whether there are any casualties. Investigations into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
The Isle of Wight has seen several small aircraft incidents in the past, though helicopter crashes remain rare.
