A 16-year-old girl and two boys, aged 14 and 15, were detained on Sunday evening following reports of an altercation on Warden Bay Road shortly after 19:00 BST. Officers, paramedics and an air ambulance attended, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

Police allege the victim was struck in the head with a large concrete slab during the incident. A witness told the Daily Mail that a man shouted “I’ve done him” before fleeing, while a local resident, named Dean, was hailed a “hero” by holidaymakers for attempting to save the victim’s life.

The crime scene, in a clearing near the beach and in front of a caravan park, was cordoned off until Tuesday afternoon. Kent Fire & Rescue Service attended to remove equipment, while specialist officers, including sniffer dogs, searched the area for evidence. Police also examined parts of Leysdown-on-Sea town centre near the arcade.

Kevin McKenna, MP for Sittingbourne and Sheppey, said he was “deeply saddened and shocked” by the death.

Kent Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact the Major Crime Unit via the Major Incident Public Portal, call 01622 652006 quoting 10-1384, or report anonymously via Crimestoppers.
