Two Dead and Anthony Joshua Injured After SUV Crashes Into Truck in Nigeria

British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua has been injured in a road crash in Nigeria that left two people dead, according to local authorities. The incident happened shortly after 11am on Sunday along the Lagos–Ibadan expressway in Makun, Ogun State.

Joshua, 36, was travelling in a Lexus Jeep with three others when the vehicle collided with a stationary truck. Images and video posted online show Joshua sitting shirtless in the damaged SUV, appearing disoriented as shattered glass surrounds him. He was later moved to an emergency vehicle for assessment.

Police confirmed Joshua received minor injuries and was taken to hospital, along with other injured occupants. Two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene.

According to eyewitness accounts, the convoy consisted of two vehicles, with Joshua seated behind the driver in the Lexus. Onlookers reportedly assisted in the rescue until federal safety officials arrived.

Ogun State Police Commissioner Lanre Ogunlowo confirmed the accident, while Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn said the team was seeking further information and emphasised caution while details are verified.

Joshua had returned to Nigeria following his recent knockout win against Jake Paul in Miami and had been expected to remain in the country for a week. He was scheduled to fight again in Riyadh in February.
