Mr Ali’s family said he had worked as a taxi driver for around ten years and described him as a careful and responsible driver. His daughter said he was “such a safe driver” and often reassured his family by telling them not to worry about him. She said she believed her father was not at fault for the crash.

The driver of the Seat Leon and two passengers were killed in the collision. They have been named as Muhammad Danyaal Asghar Ali, Farhan Patel and Mohammed Jibrael Mukhtar. An 18-year-old man who was also a passenger in the Seat remains in hospital receiving treatment for minor injuries.

In the taxi, a 29-year-old woman suffered potentially life-threatening injuries. A 28-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man sustained serious injuries, while a 29-year-old man suffered minor injuries.

A local resident who witnessed the aftermath said he heard a loud bang and saw emergency services performing CPR at the scene. He described seeing injured and unconscious passengers being assisted by first responders.

Police said the collision occurred at around 12.45am and confirmed that the scene was challenging for emergency crews. Detectives are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash and have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Officers have also warned members of the public against sharing footage of the incident on social media, saying this could cause further distress to families and may constitute a criminal offence.
