A teenager who recorded the killing of his mother after posting threats online has been jailed for life.

Tristan Roberts, 18, was sentenced at Mold Crown Court to a minimum term of 22 years and six months for the murder of Angela Shellis, 45, in Prestatyn, north Wales.

The court heard Roberts planned the killing over several weeks, purchasing weapons including knives, axes and hammers shortly after turning 18.

He also posted messages online in which he discussed killing his mother and expressed hostility towards women.

On the night of the attack in October last year, Roberts began recording a four-hour audio file documenting the events.

Prosecutors said he initially assaulted his mother in her bedroom, where she was held for several hours while injured.

He later persuaded her to leave the house under the pretence of seeking help, before leading her to a nearby nature reserve where he carried out the fatal attack using a hammer.

Angela Shellis was found the following morning with severe head injuries. A trail of blood extended along a path in the reserve, and items including a balaclava, gloves and a crutch were recovered at the scene.

Evidence presented in court showed Roberts had researched methods of killing online and had engaged with violent and misogynistic content.

He had also used artificial intelligence tools in an attempt to seek advice on how to carry out the attack.

The court heard Roberts had a sustained interest in violent media and had documented his intentions in advance of the killing.

North Wales Police initially struggled to identify the victim, before a relative contacted officers later that day.

Roberts was arrested at the family home.

He pleaded guilty to murder and was sentenced to life imprisonment.
