A woman at the centre of a murder investigation in Blackley has been named as Amber O’Brien, as police continue to question a man in custody.
Emergency services were called to Somerton Court on Broadmoss Drive at around 6pm on Sunday, where the 33-year-old was found dead at the scene.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed a 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody.
Detectives have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death, with the case now referred to Manchester Coroners’ Court.
Police said a cordon remains in place around the tower block as forensic officers continue to gather evidence.
Detective Chief Inspector Anna Barker, from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said officers are working to establish the full details of what happened.
“We have a man in custody and detectives are questioning him as we try to establish the full circumstances that led to this tragic death,” she said.
She added that while the incident may cause concern locally, officers do not believe there is a wider risk to the public.
Tributes to Ms O’Brien have been shared by friends, neighbours and members of the local community.
One tribute described her as “a beautiful woman gone far too soon”, while another said she was “the life and soul of the party”.
A local business said it was “heartbroken” by the news, describing her as someone who brought “laughter and warmth” and had been known in the community for many years.
Friends also described her as a qualified painter and decorator who was widely known in the area and remembered for her personality and presence.
Police have urged anyone with information to come forward as enquiries continue.
