Dubai Police have arrested Daniel Kinahan in the United Arab Emirates following a warrant issued by Irish authorities, in a move seen as a significant development against organised crime networks.

Authorities detained the 48-year-old Dubliner on Wednesday as part of an operation linked to his alleged role in an international criminal organisation.

Dubai Police said they acted after receiving a judicial file from Ireland outlining the allegations, with prosecutors issuing an arrest warrant to begin legal procedures ahead of extradition.

Specialist teams carried out search and surveillance operations and arrested Kinahan within 48 hours of the warrant being issued, according to officials.

Irish police confirmed the arrest and said it was carried out under the extradition treaty between Ireland and the UAE.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said the development marked an “extremely important” step in efforts to target transnational organised crime.

The force added it has worked closely with international partners, including authorities in the UAE, supported by Irish government departments responsible for justice and foreign affairs.

Kinahan has lived in Dubai since 2017 after relocating from Spain following an attempt on his life in 2016.

Authorities in the United States have previously offered a $5 million reward for information leading to the disruption of the Kinahan organised crime group or the arrest and conviction of those involved.

The arrest follows a rare public sighting of Kinahan alongside his father Christy Kinahan at an MMA event in Dubai in June 2025.

Dubai Police said the operation reflects ongoing cooperation between international law enforcement agencies to combat cross-border crime.

Extradition proceedings are expected to follow.
