A man has been jailed after stabbing another motorist in the neck during a parking dispute in Peterborough on New Year’s Eve.
Jameel Ali, 24, attacked the victim at around 4pm on December 31, 2023, on Windmill Street after being asked to move his car to allow another vehicle to park.
Cambridge Crown Court heard that the two men argued before Ali headbutted the victim and stabbed him in the neck with what was described as a knife.
Ali then fled the scene as emergency services were called.
Officers found the victim, a man in his 30s, on the ground with a neck wound consistent with a stab injury. He was taken to Peterborough City Hospital and later transferred to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge for specialist assessment.
Police identified Ali’s vehicle and arrested him two days after the incident.
Ali, of St Pauls Road, Peterborough, denied assault causing grievous bodily harm with intent but was found guilty following a trial in January.
He was sentenced to six years in prison at Cambridge Crown Court on May 15.
Detective Constable Lloyd Davis said the victim’s injuries could have been more serious and confirmed that Ali had been identified and brought before the court.
