A neo-Nazi teenager has been jailed for 19 years and six months after attempting to kill a man with an axe in a terrorism-motivated attack in Bristol.
Alina Burns, 19, of Lynton Road, admitted attempting to murder Mohammed Mahmoodi, 27, outside a barber’s shop in Bedminster on August 2, 2025.
Bristol Crown Court heard that Burns approached Mahmoodi from behind and swung an axe at his neck. He managed to wrestle the weapon away before she could strike him again.
During sentencing, Mahmoodi said a scar on his neck remains a “daily reminder” of the attack.
Prosecutors said Burns held extreme right-wing views and had expressed support for violence against Jews and Muslims, as well as calls for non-white people to be expelled from the UK.
The court heard she had been in contact with far-right groups and had accessed extremist material online. Evidence recovered included notes relating to explosives, extremist literature, and communications referencing violent ideology.
It was also said that she had sent messages encouraging violence against religious groups and had viewed extremist content shortly before the attack.
Burns admitted attempted murder and possession of weapons, including an axe, a scalpel and darts. She denied a charge of preparing terrorist acts, although the court found the attack was motivated by terrorism.
She was told she must serve a minimum of 15 years and six months in custody.
