A girl has been arrested after three people were injured in a knife attack at a school in Manchester, police said.
Greater Manchester Police said the incident happened at Co-op Academy Manchester on Plant Hill Road in Blackley. Three people suffered injuries consistent with a knife, but police said the injuries are not believed to be serious at this stage.
Emergency services remained at the scene after the incident, with police, ambulances and a helicopter all seen outside the school. The school was placed on lockdown as officers responded.
Police said there is not believed to be any wider threat to pupils or staff. The school later said it would remain closed for the rest of the day.
Parents and guardians began collecting pupils from the school later in the morning as the scene outside the gates started to clear, although a police presence remained in place on Plant Hill Road.
Peter Woods, whose daughter is in Year 9 at the school, told BBC Radio Manchester he came to the site after receiving a call about the incident. He said hearing the word “knife” immediately caused panic and fear. He also said he wanted to know what measures the school would put in place before children returned.
Co-op Academy Manchester is a secondary school in Higher Blackley. Authorities have not yet released further details about the circumstances of the attack or the identities of those injured.
