Bushra Bibi, the wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, was released from Adiala Jail on Thursday, a day after being granted bail in a Toshakhana case. Bushra had been held in detention for nearly nine months since her arrest on January 31 following her conviction in the case by an Islamabad accountability court, which sentenced both her and her husband to 14 years in prison.

Imran Khan, the PTI founder, remains incarcerated in Adiala Jail after his arrest on August 5 last year in a separate Toshakhana case. Both he and Bushra were originally apprehended on July 13, shortly after their acquittal in the Iddat case. Imran was further linked to a dozen other cases related to events on May 9, leading to his ongoing imprisonment.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has accused the couple of retaining an expensive Bvlgari jewellery set, including a necklace, earrings, bracelets, and rings, which was gifted by a foreign leader. The FIA claims the couple paid a significantly reduced price for the set, causing a financial loss to the state.

On Wednesday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) approved Bushra’s bail in the case. Following this decision, Special Judge Shahrukh Arjumand issued the formal release orders today after her legal team, represented by Malik Tariq Mehmood Noon and Sohail Satti, submitted the required surety bonds worth Rs1 million.

The release order specified that Bushra Bibi was to be freed “if she is not wanted in any other case.” This marks the end of her lengthy detention, though her husband, Imran Khan, remains in custody.
