Thomas Tuchel Agrees to Become England’s Next Manager

Former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has agreed to take over as the next manager of the England men’s football team, according to sources. Tuchel will become only the third non-British permanent manager of the England team, following in the footsteps of Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.

England has been without a permanent manager since Gareth Southgate resigned after the team’s Euro 2024 final defeat to Spain. Interim manager Lee Carsley, who was put in charge by the Football Association, will remain in place for the team’s last two Nations League matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland in November. Tuchel is expected to formally take over following those fixtures.

Tuchel’s formal unveiling is anticipated this week at Wembley Stadium. His primary goal will be to lead England through the qualification process for the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Earlier this year, the FA also approached Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola regarding his potential interest in the role, but no agreement was reached.
