Former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner will brief the US president at the White House on Wednesday about proposals for post-war Gaza, sources familiar with the matter have said.
The meeting will examine options for governance in Gaza without Hamas in power, as well as measures to expand food and humanitarian aid flows amid warnings of famine.
A White House official confirmed that Trump “wants the war to end, and he wants peace and prosperity for everyone in the region,” but declined to give further details.
Behind the scenes, Blair and Kushner have been working with Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff on a “day-after” framework for several months. Witkoff told Fox News that the plan would be “very comprehensive” and reflect Trump’s “humanitarian motives.”
Blair has already discussed elements of the plan with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his adviser Ron Dermer, and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Kushner also travelled to Israel earlier this month for talks with Netanyahu.
The post-war blueprint could provide Netanyahu with political cover to accept a ceasefire and hostage deal while presenting it as part of a broader international arrangement to remove Hamas from power.
Trump is said to believe the conflict could be brought to an end by the end of the year, though Israeli forces are preparing a major new offensive in Gaza City.
