At least seven people, including children, were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a residential area of Gaza City, according to local health officials. Survivors, many of them wounded children, were taken to Al Shifa Hospital.
Israeli Army Radio claimed the strike targeted Hamas military spokesperson Abu Ubaida, though his fate remains unconfirmed. The attack destroyed a residential building in a densely populated neighbourhood, leaving bodies under the rubble and scenes of devastation captured in images and videos circulating from the site.
The strike comes amid Israel’s continued offensive in Gaza, which has been accompanied by widespread civilian casualties. Health officials in Gaza said that children were among those killed in the latest attack.
The Israeli military has yet to issue a detailed statement on the strike, beyond Army Radio’s claim that Abu Ubaida was the intended target.
Al Shifa Hospital staff reported receiving multiple victims with severe blast injuries. Emergency teams said more casualties could be recovered from the rubble in the coming hours.
The escalation follows recent statements by Israeli officials pledging to intensify operations in Gaza City.
