Manchester United claimed a much-needed 3-2 win over Burnley at Old Trafford, thanks to a stoppage-time penalty from Bruno Fernandes. The result gives some respite to head coach Ruben Amorim, though his side again showed defensive frailties against a determined opponent.
United went ahead in the 27th minute when Josh Cullen put the ball into his own net under pressure. However, Burnley responded after the break, with Lyle Foster levelling in the 55th minute from a Jacob Bruun Larsen assist.
Parity lasted just two minutes as Bryan Mbeumo quickly restored United’s lead with help from Diogo Dalot, but Burnley equalised again through Jaidon Anthony in the 66th minute.
The match looked set to end in a draw until the seventh minute of stoppage time, when Fernandes converted from the spot to secure three points for the home side.
Despite the win, questions remain over Amorim’s tenure, as United struggled to impose themselves against a side battling near the foot of the table. The victory, however, lifts some immediate pressure ahead of a demanding fixture list, with a Manchester derby against City looming after the international break.
