Pakistan cricketer Haider Ali was arrested in Manchester on 4 August 2025 in connection with an alleged rape incident. The Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a 24-year-old man was taken into custody following a complaint relating to an incident that occurred on 23 July. While police have not officially named the individual, multiple sources within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have identified the player as Haider Ali.
The arrest took place during a match at the Beckenham ground, part of the Pakistan Shaheens’ 15-day UK tour from 17 July to 6 August. Haider was removed from the squad on the same day and was later released on bail. Authorities have reportedly confiscated his passport as part of ongoing investigations.
The PCB announced Haider’s immediate suspension following confirmation of the criminal probe. In an official statement, the board said it would cooperate fully with the relevant UK authorities and would initiate its own internal inquiry. It also stated that the player would be provided legal assistance during the proceedings.
Sources have indicated that the arrest occurred inside the dressing room during a training session. Haider was described as visibly distressed during the arrest and has denied the allegations.
The complaint, filed by a British national of Pakistani origin, is not linked to any match-fixing investigation. The PCB reiterated that disciplinary action would be determined based on the outcome of both the legal process and the board’s code of conduct review.
The Shaheens’ tour of England, intended as a development initiative for emerging players, has now been overshadowed by the criminal case. Haider’s future with the national cricket structure remains uncertain pending the results of the legal and internal investigations.
