Former UFC star Rampage Jackson has issued a statement after his son Raja was involved in an incident at a professional wrestling event which left wrestler Stewart Smith, known as “Syko Stu”, unconscious.
Jackson confirmed that Smith is now awake and stable but said Raja, an MMA fighter, struck him in the side of the head shortly before his scheduled match. Raja was reportedly told he could get his “payback” in the ring, which Jackson said he mistakenly thought was part of the show.
“It was bad judgement, and a work that went wrong,” Jackson wrote on social media. “Raja is a MMA fighter, not a pro wrestler, and had no business involved in an event like this. I don’t condone my son’s actions AT ALL.”
Jackson added that Raja had recently suffered a concussion in sparring and should not have been anywhere near physical contact. He expressed concern for both his son’s health and Smith’s well-being.
“As a father, I’m deeply concerned,” he wrote. “That being said I’m very upset that any of this happened, but my main concern now is that Mr Smith will make a speedy recovery. I apologise on his behalf and to KICK for the situation.”
