Part of a Victorian church collapsed onto a busy street in Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire, narrowly missing passersby.
The incident happened at around 10am on Saturday when the façade of the Grade-II listed building, originally constructed in the 1850s as a United Reform Church, gave way. Footage showed a passerby glancing up while on the phone seconds before large blocks of masonry tumbled to the ground.
Emergency services rushed to the scene on Bradford Road, which was closed through the afternoon. Despite the dramatic collapse, no injuries were reported.
The two-storey property has had several uses since its time as a church. It was home to the Aakash restaurant for 22 years before being converted into wedding venue The Monal following refurbishment.
In a statement, The Monal said there had been a “minor incident” but confirmed: “The most important news is that everyone is completely safe.” The venue added: “Our team is assessing everything to ensure the space remains safe, secure and welcoming for everyone. We deeply appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.”
The building, known historically as Providence Place Church, was first granted listed status in 1982.
