Police Scotland have charged a man and a woman following an incident in Dundee where a 12-year-old girl was allegedly filmed brandishing weapons in the street.
The incident, which took place on St Ann Lane in the Lochee area on 23 August, has been widely circulated on social media, with some footage being shared by high-profile figures including Elon Musk and activist Tommy Robinson.
A police spokesperson confirmed on Thursday: “Following extensive enquiries, a man and a woman have been charged in connection with an incident in St Ann Lane in Dundee, which was reported around 7.40pm on Saturday, August 23. The circumstances will be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.”
The girl, who was previously charged with possession of offensive weapons, will be referred to the Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration and the Procurator Fiscal.
Police Scotland have urged the public not to share or speculate on the incident online, warning of misinformation that has fuelled alarm and fear.
Scotland’s First Minister intervened last week, accusing Elon Musk of deliberately spreading misinformation, calling it an attempt to “undermine” social cohesion in Scottish communities. He condemned what he described as “deliberate disinformation” being used to stoke division.
