Marc Guehi’s proposed £35 million move from Crystal Palace to Liverpool has collapsed, despite a deal sheet being submitted in time for the transfer deadline.
Liverpool were confident of securing the England international on deadline day, but Palace pulled out of the deal after failing to secure a replacement. Brighton defender Igor Julio had undergone a medical at Selhurst Park earlier in the day, only to reverse his decision and opt for a move to West Ham.
The late twist left Palace unable to sanction Guehi’s departure, even though he had already undergone a medical and personal terms were agreed with Liverpool. Palace manager Oliver Glasner had previously made it clear he would not allow his captain to leave without a suitable successor in place.
The decision means Guehi will remain at Selhurst Park, at least for now, though it raises uncertainty about his long-term future. The 25-year-old has refused to sign a contract extension, and Palace risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.
Liverpool had identified Guehi as a key defensive reinforcement, with manager Ruben Amorim eager to add depth to his back line following a record-breaking summer of spending that included Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz. The collapse of the deal is a significant setback to those plans.
The episode caps a frantic deadline day in which multiple Premier League clubs scrambled to finalise deals.
