The U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, was placed on lockdown on Thursday after reports of possible threats triggered an immediate security response.
Officials said the decision was made “out of an abundance of caution” as investigators worked to verify the nature of the reports. Naval Support Activity Annapolis confirmed that the academy coordinated with state and federal agencies during the response.
Students and staff received urgent warnings to remain indoors and lock their doors while local police and military personnel secured the area. Armoured vehicles and heavily armed officers were seen entering the campus during the lockdown.
Authorities later stressed that the measures were precautionary, and no immediate threat had been confirmed. Investigations remain ongoing, but the campus was declared safe later in the evening.
