Brooklyn Beckham has issued a lengthy public statement accusing his parents of controlling his life and public image, saying he does not wish to reconcile with his family and has found peace since stepping away from them.
In a message shared on social media on Monday night, the 26-year-old said he had remained silent for years in an effort to keep family matters private, but felt compelled to speak out after what he described as repeated briefings to the press by his parents and their representatives.
Beckham said he was “standing up for myself for the first time in my life”, rejecting suggestions that he is being controlled by his wife, actress Nicola Peltz. He said claims that she dominates him were “completely backwards”, adding that he had instead been controlled by his parents for most of his life.

He accused his family of prioritising public image, branding and promotion above personal relationships, saying that what he described as performative social media posts and carefully managed press narratives had shaped his upbringing. He said stepping away from his family had eased longstanding anxiety and brought him a sense of peace.
In the statement, Beckham made a series of specific allegations relating to the period around his wedding. He claimed his mother cancelled plans to design Nicola Peltz’s wedding dress shortly before the ceremony, and alleged that his parents pressured him to sign over rights to his name ahead of the wedding, saying the timing was linked to financial interests.
He also described tensions during wedding planning, including disagreements over seating arrangements and claims that members of his family made remarks about his wife not being “blood” or “family”. Beckham further alleged that his first dance at the wedding was disrupted, leaving him feeling humiliated.
Beckham said his relationship with his family deteriorated further after he began setting boundaries, alleging that he faced repeated personal and public attacks, including criticism delivered through the media. He also claimed his brothers had been encouraged to criticise him online before cutting off contact.
Addressing his relationship with his father, he said he and his wife travelled to London for David Beckham’s 50th birthday celebrations but were unable to arrange private time together unless it involved a large public event. He said he was later asked to meet his father without his wife present, which he described as deeply hurtful.
He added that his family later declined to meet him during a visit to Los Angeles, and accused them of valuing public appearances and endorsements over private family relationships. He said support was conditional on participation in public-facing events and social media displays.
Beckham said he remains in contact with both sets of grandparents but does not want direct contact from his parents, nor public statements about him on social media. According to reports, he previously asked that any communication be handled through legal representatives, though no legal action has been taken.
Concluding his statement, Beckham said he and his wife want a life free from press pressure and image management, focused instead on privacy, stability and their future family.
Neither David nor Victoria Beckham has publicly responded to the statement.
