Three men have been jailed for their roles in a planned machete attack in Dewsbury which left a 23-year-old man with injuries so serious he nearly lost a leg.
Sabeel Ayub, 33, of Scout Hill, Dewsbury, Faizaan Bashir, 26, of Lee Road, Ravensthorpe, Dewsbury, and Fahim Iqbal, 35, of Coal Pit Mews, Carlinghow, Batley, all pleaded guilty to section 18 wounding with intent.
Ayub was sentenced to 14 years and eight months in prison. Bashir and Iqbal were each sentenced to 12 years.
Police were called shortly before 4pm on 15 May 2025 to reports of fighting involving bladed weapons on Ravens Crescent, Scout Hill, Dewsbury.
Investigators established that the attackers had deliberately struck the victim with a vehicle before pulling him to the ground and attacking him with machetes.
The victim was taken to hospital with severe injuries and nearly lost a leg as a result of the assault.
Detective Constable Callum Wallace, of Kirklees CID, said the attack had been clearly planned and targeted, with the men willing to use extreme violence.
He said the incident happened in broad daylight while children were outside playing in the street, and added that he hoped the sentencing would reassure the public that the three men were now behind bars.
Police said enquiries are continuing to trace two other men wanted in connection with the same incident.
Officers want to speak to Faisal Ali, 33, from the Dewsbury area, and Kessar Iqbal, 33, also from Dewsbury, whose last known address was in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, Scotland.
West Yorkshire Police has appealed for anyone with information about the whereabouts of either man, or any other information that could assist the investigation, to contact Kirklees CID quoting crime reference 13250272813.
