BPI News is an independent digital news publication covering Britain, Pakistan, British Pakistani communities and important developments around the world.
Our reporting includes breaking news, original journalism, liveblogs, analysis, editorials, sport, entertainment and automated global alerts. These standards explain how we aim to produce accurate, responsible and transparent journalism.
Accuracy and verification
Accuracy is our first priority.
Before publishing, we aim to:
- Verify important facts using reliable sources.
- Use official documents, court records, public statements and first-hand evidence whenever available.
- Seek confirmation from more than one credible source for disputed or developing claims.
- Clearly identify information that has not been independently verified.
- Attribute claims and information to their original source.
- Present allegations as allegations unless they have been established by a court or other authoritative process.
- Ensure that headlines, images and social-media descriptions accurately reflect the article.
Breaking stories can change quickly. We may update an article as further confirmed information becomes available.
Sources
BPI News identifies its sources wherever it is safe and appropriate to do so.
Anonymous sources may be used when they have credible access to important information and there is a legitimate reason to protect their identity. Information from anonymous sources should be independently checked whenever possible.
Social-media posts, eyewitness footage and user-generated content must be treated cautiously. We aim to verify the origin, date, location and context of such material before presenting it as fact.
A link to another publisher does not mean BPI News has independently confirmed everything contained in that report.
Fairness and right of reply
People and organisations facing serious criticism should normally be given a reasonable opportunity to respond before publication.
Their response will be included fairly when it is received in time and is relevant to the claims being reported. If a response arrives after publication, the article may be updated.
We aim to distinguish clearly between established facts, allegations, eyewitness accounts, analysis and opinion.
Corrections and updates
If BPI News publishes a material factual error, we aim to correct it promptly and transparently.
A substantial correction should explain what was wrong and what was changed. Minor spelling, grammar or formatting corrections may be made without a correction notice where they do not alter the meaning of the article.
Developing articles and liveblogs may display an updated time when new information is added.

- The address of the article.
- The statement you believe is inaccurate.
- An explanation of the problem.
- Any supporting evidence.
Editorials and analysis
Editorials, opinion pieces and analysis must be clearly labelled so readers can distinguish them from straight news reporting.
Opinion writers are entitled to reach their own conclusions, but opinion articles must still be based on honestly presented information. They must not deliberately misrepresent facts or fabricate evidence.
Crime and court reporting
Crime and court stories must be reported carefully.
BPI News aims to:
- Respect the legal presumption of innocence.
- Use terms such as “alleged”, “accused” or “charged” correctly.
- Distinguish between an arrest, a charge, a conviction and a sentence.
- Avoid presenting an allegation as an established fact.
- Follow applicable reporting restrictions.
- Protect the identities of victims, children and other legally protected individuals when required.
Previous allegations or convictions should only be included when they are relevant and legally reportable.
Children and vulnerable people
We take additional care when reporting about children, victims, bereaved families and vulnerable people.
Publication of a name, image or personal detail should be justified by the public interest and should comply with applicable law. We aim to avoid unnecessary intrusion, humiliation or distress.
Particular care should be taken when reporting suicide, self-harm, sexual offences, domestic abuse and traumatic events.
Privacy and the public interest
BPI News balances an individual’s reasonable expectation of privacy against the public interest in publishing important information.
Public interest considerations may include:
- Protecting public safety.
- Exposing crime or serious wrongdoing.
- Preventing the public from being misled.
- Revealing a serious failure by a public body.
- Contributing to a significant matter of public debate.
Public curiosity alone is not necessarily the same as the public interest.
Images, video and other media
Images, video and audio published by BPI News should be owned, licensed, used with permission, embedded under the source platform’s terms or otherwise lawfully available for publication.
Captions should accurately describe the material and include a credit when required. Illustrations, archive images and representative images should be labelled when readers might otherwise mistake them for pictures of the event being reported.
Graphic or distressing material should only be used when editorially justified. A suitable warning should be provided where appropriate.
Liveblogs
Liveblogs provide chronological coverage of developing events.
Each update should display its publication time and, where appropriate, link to its source. Early information may later change or be corrected as more reliable details become available.
Pinned updates, summaries and headlines must not give a misleading impression of the latest confirmed situation.
BPI Global Alerts
BPI Global Alerts monitors selected machine-readable and named sources for important events.
An automatically generated alert is an initial notice, not automatically an independently verified BPI News report. Automated alerts should be clearly identifiable and should link to the original source where appropriate.
Automatic alert articles are held from search-engine submission until they have received the required editorial review and approval.
Artificial intelligence and automation
BPI News may use automated tools to assist with monitoring, formatting, transcription, search descriptions, related-article suggestions and other production tasks.
Automation must not replace editorial responsibility. A human editor remains responsible for the accuracy, fairness, legality and final presentation of original BPI News journalism.
Material generated or substantially altered using artificial intelligence must be checked before it is presented as verified reporting.
Independence and conflicts of interest
Editorial decisions should not be controlled by advertisers, sponsors, political organisations or commercial partners.
Advertising and sponsored content must be clearly distinguishable from independent journalism. Commercial arrangements must not guarantee favourable editorial coverage.
Writers and editors should disclose significant personal, financial or political interests that could reasonably affect their reporting.
Discrimination and responsible language
References to race, religion, nationality, immigration status, disability, sex, gender or sexual orientation should only be included when genuinely relevant.
BPI News aims to avoid language that encourages hatred, harassment or discrimination. Reporting controversial views does not mean that BPI News endorses those views.
