Requesting a Correction
If you believe an article contains a factual error, please email Contact@BPINews.org.
Please include:
- The headline and web address of the article
- The information you believe is inaccurate
- An explanation of why it is inaccurate
- Any documents, links or other evidence supporting your request
- Your name and contact details
We will review the original material, consult the relevant reporter or editor and examine any evidence provided.
How We Correct Articles
When BPI News confirms a material error, we will correct it as promptly and clearly as reasonably possible.
A significant correction may include a note explaining what was changed and when. Minor spelling, grammar, formatting or presentation errors may be corrected without an editor’s note when they do not change the meaning of the article.
We do not normally remove accurate published information simply because it has become inconvenient or because somebody dislikes its inclusion. However, we will consider removal or anonymisation where there is a compelling legal, safety, privacy or public-interest reason.
Complaints About Our Reporting
Complaints may concern matters including:
- Accuracy or misleading information
- Unfair treatment or lack of an appropriate opportunity to respond
- Privacy or the identification of vulnerable people
- Discrimination or inappropriate language
- Images, video or other media
- Copyright or attribution
- Conflicts of interest
- Undeclared sponsored or commercial content
Please provide specific details rather than making a general complaint about the publication or subject matter.
Right of Reply
When an article contains significant criticism of a person or organisation, BPI News aims to offer a fair opportunity to respond where reasonably possible.
A response does not automatically entitle its sender to dictate the wording of an article or require the removal of accurate reporting. Relevant responses may be added to an article or included in subsequent coverage.
Liveblogs and Breaking News
Breaking stories can change quickly. Information in a liveblog may be attributed to officials, witnesses, news agencies or other named sources before every detail can be independently confirmed.
We will clearly distinguish confirmed information from allegations, claims and developing reports. Material errors in live updates will be corrected, and a correction note will be added when appropriate.
Automated Global Alerts
Some initial BPI Global Alerts are created from structured information published by named official sources. These alerts are clearly labelled and may change as the issuing authority updates its information.
If an automated alert contains an error, please identify the alert and the relevant official source so it can be reviewed.
Complaints Involving Children or Vulnerable People
Complaints involving children, victims of abuse, medical information or an immediate risk to somebody’s safety will be treated with particular care.
Please mark an urgent email clearly, but do not send sensitive personal information unless it is necessary for us to understand the complaint.
Our Review Process
We will acknowledge and review complaints as soon as reasonably possible. More complicated matters may require additional time to examine documents, contact people involved or obtain legal advice.
The editor reviewing a complaint may:
- Correct or clarify the article
- Add a response or update
- Add an editor’s note
- Remove particular material
- Decide that no amendment is required and explain why
If you disagree with the initial decision, you may request a further editorial review and explain what you believe was overlooked.
Abusive or Bad-Faith Complaints
We may stop corresponding where messages are abusive, threatening, repetitive, knowingly false or unrelated to a specific piece of BPI News content. Legitimate criticism will not be rejected merely because it is strongly expressed.
