Getafe Aims to Extend Mason Greenwood’s Loan

Getafe is keen on extending Mason Greenwood’s stay following a successful loan spell from Manchester United. The 22-year-old forward, who has scored 10 goals in 32 appearances across all competitions, has become a pivotal player for the Spanish club, currently 10th in La Liga.

The decision stems from a series of events that began with Greenwood’s transfer to Getafe on the last day of the transfer window in September, following an internal investigation by Manchester United into allegations against him, which led to the collapse of a legal case. Manchester United at the time indicated it was preferable for Greenwood to continue his career elsewhere, suggesting he might not play for them again.

Angel Torres, Getafe’s president, revealed in an interview with Radio Marca that the player, his family, and the club are all inclined towards extending his stay at Getafe for another year. This sentiment is supported by the feedback from Getafe’s coach and fans, who are reportedly very satisfied with Greenwood’s performance.

The future of Greenwood remains a topic of discussion at Manchester United, with co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe mentioning in February that no final decision has been made regarding the player. Meanwhile, Torres shared that recent discussions with Manchester United’s sporting director suggest the Premier League club might consider selling Greenwood if a suitable offer is presented.

As the situation develops, Getafe is hopeful that Greenwood can continue to contribute to their campaign either until the end of the next season or at least until January.
