A 29-year-old police officer has died following a stabbing attack that took place on Friday during a right-wing demonstration in Mannheim, Germany. The tragic incident has left the city and the nation in mourning.

The attack was perpetrated by a 25-year-old man armed with a knife, who managed to severely injure six individuals, including the policeman. According to the police statement from Baden Wuerttemberg, where Mannheim is located, the assailant targeted the officer, stabbing him multiple times in the head.

Immediately after the attack, the officer underwent emergency surgery and was placed in an induced coma. Despite the medical team’s efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.

The assailant was shot and wounded by police during the incident, preventing further harm to others.

The demonstration where the attack occurred was organized by the Pax Europa Movement, a group known for its anti-Islam stance. Michael Stuerzenberger, a prominent anti-Islam activist, was preparing to address a small crowd in central Mannheim when the violence erupted. The incident was being livestreamed, capturing the chaos as it unfolded.

The death of the police officer has sparked an outpouring of grief and condemnation.
