CENTCOM Says US Hit Three Iranian Oil Tankers After Missiles Fired Towards Navy Warships
US Central Command says American forces have hit three Iranian crude oil carriers after the IRGC launched ballistic missiles towards two US Navy warships in regional waters.
CENTCOM said a US aircraft carrier and guided-missile destroyer successfully evaded multiple Iranian attacks, with no American personnel harmed.
The update follows reports that Iran targeted a US aircraft carrier with anti-ship ballistic missiles, believed by analysts to likely include the Khalij-e-Fars system.
No hits on the carrier were recorded, but CENTCOM said the USS George Washington was forced to perform evasive manoeuvres.
The reported use of anti-ship ballistic missiles would mark a significant escalation because the weapons pose a more serious threat to large naval vessels than drones or ordinary anti-ship cruise missiles.
During the Red Sea crisis, under what the US called Operation Prosperity Guardian, Houthi anti-ship ballistic missiles came close enough to the USS Harry S Truman aircraft carrier that it was forced into sharp manoeuvres, during which an F/A-18 Hornet fell overboard.
CENTCOM said US forces “permanently disabled” M/T Downy off Kharg Island and M/T Stark 1 near Jask, describing both vessels as part of Iran’s IRGC-linked oil network.
It said American forces also “completely destroyed” the unladen crude oil carrier M/T Kylo, also known as Noxen, in the Gulf of Oman after its crew was told to abandon ship.
CENTCOM said the vessel was struck in “multiple critical locations” to render it inoperable.
Admiral Brad Cooper, the CENTCOM commander, said: “Let the message to the IRGC be clear: If you shoot at two of our ships, we will impose an even higher economic cost - taking out three of yours.”
He added: “We will not hesitate to defend American forces, and if necessary, destroy Iran’s limited and exposed oil fleet.”
Iranian Media Says Oil Tanker Off Kharg Island Hit By Four US Missiles
Iranian media says an oil tanker anchored off Kharg Island has been struck by four US missiles and is being evacuated.
Iran’s Student News Network first reported that a missile had hit an Iranian oil tanker off Kharg Island, with no casualties reported at that stage.
Iranian outlet Khabar Fouri later reported that the tanker had been struck by four US missiles.
Kharg Island is one of the most important sites in Iran’s oil industry and handles around 90% of the country’s crude oil exports.
Analysis Finds Iranian Wedding Deaths Likely Caused By US Strike
A missile that struck a wedding in southern Iran and killed four people, including two children, was likely fired by the US, according to a Reuters analysis.
The strike hit Kuhestak, a coastal city in Iran’s Hormozgan province, at around 9.30pm on Tuesday, injuring 68 people, according to local authorities.
Reuters said weapons experts reviewed images and video verified by the news agency, with three of four experts saying it was unlikely the deaths were caused by a stray Iranian missile.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei condemned the strike as a war crime.
The house reportedly belonged to Ali Mallahi, a local fisher who was celebrating his daughter’s wedding.
Videos shared on social media by relatives and friends of the couple showed rubble, flower garlands, decorations and bloodied shoes at the scene.
Local residents said many guests had not yet arrived for the henna ceremony when the blast hit.
The victims reported by local sources include four-year-old Amir Mohammad Karimi, 16-year-old Mohammad Mallahi and 22-year-old Asiyeh Molainejad.
A Balochistan rights monitor said at least six injured people remained in serious condition in intensive care in Minab, about 18 miles from Kuhestak.
Asked about the strike, US Vice-President JD Vance said the US would never target civilians in combat, but added that “sometimes things happen” and said he was sceptical of Iranian reports.
IRGC Says Two Oil Tankers Still Burning After Hitting Mines In Strait Of Hormuz
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps says two oil tankers have hit sea mines and exploded while trying to cross the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement shared by Iranian state media IRNA, the IRGC said the tankers struck mines several hours ago and were still burning.
The IRGC accused the vessels of being directed by the US through what it described as “an illegal route”.
It said its Navy had previously warned of the dangers of crossing the “mined passage”.
Donald Trump has repeatedly said Washington is in control of the Strait of Hormuz.
The names of the tankers, their flags, crew status and the extent of damage have not yet been independently confirmed.
Iran Warns Wider Response Against Countries Cooperating With US Military
Ebrahim Zolfaghari, spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, has warned that countries cooperating with the US military could face consequences after the latest American strikes on southern Iran.
In a statement, Zolfaghari accused the US military of attacking military and civilian locations in southern Iran, saying several civilians had been killed.
He claimed Iranian armed forces had responded with missile and drone attacks on US bases in the region.
Zolfaghari said the operations would continue until the US “regret and repent” for what he described as its crimes.
He also warned that further US action in the region would be met with a “harsher, wider and more destructive” response.

Iran’s IRGC says it has launched a second wave of ballistic missile strikes against Camp Titin, a joint military installation in southern Jordan near Aqaba and the Gulf of Aqaba.
In a statement, the IRGC said the attack was part of its “Punishment of the Aggressor” operation and was carried out by its Aerospace Force.
The IRGC claimed the strike was in response to a US attack on a residential home in Sirik, southern Iran, where it said a wedding ceremony was taking place.
Iranian officials and media have said the Sirik attack killed and wounded dozens of people, including a child.
The casualty figures and damage claims have not been independently verified.

US Central Command said the strikes began at 12pm Eastern Time, or 16:00 GMT.

Iranian news agencies Fars and Tasnim also reported explosions in Konarak, although the exact locations were not immediately clear.
