UAE Adviser Urges De-Escalation And Restoration Of Strait Of Hormuz Shipping
UAE presidential adviser Anwar Gargash has called for de-escalation and the restoration of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz after a renewed confrontation between the US and Iran.
Gargash said the region needs “realistic and sustainable” political solutions, beginning with efforts to reduce tensions and restore maritime movement through one of the world’s most important shipping routes.
In a statement on X, he said any approach must go “beyond” the MoU, which he said had failed to provide a practical and acceptable roadmap.
His comments came hours after Iran claimed it had targeted the UAE, allegations Abu Dhabi has denied.
The latest escalation began on Sunday when the US carried out strikes on targets on Iran’s Larak Island. Washington said the operation targeted launchers that posed an imminent threat near the Strait of Hormuz.
The confrontation has raised fresh concern because it comes as the Trump administration has been presenting its mine-clearing efforts in the Strait as a success and signalling a wider shift away from military momentum towards economic pressure on Tehran.
US diplomats are still working to find a political route out of the conflict, and there is no clear indication at this stage that the latest exchange marks the start of a sustained bombing campaign.
However, whether the situation remains contained may depend on Washington’s next steps, particularly as Iran and Gulf states continue to trade claims, denials and warnings around the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran-US Confrontation Summary: Tehran Claims Drone And Missile Attacks After Larak Strike
ranian military sources have issued a summary of claimed attacks between 30 and 31 August, following the US strike on Iran’s Larak Island near the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran says a supertanker was struck by two naval mines in the southern Strait of Hormuz, caught fire and came to a complete halt.
Tehran also claims it shot down a US Air Force MQ-9A Reaper drone over the Strait of Hormuz early this morning.
The Iranian Army Ground Forces said Arash-2 one-way attack drones were used to target Al Minhad Air Base in the UAE.
The UAE has denied reports that Al Minhad was attacked.
Iran’s IRGC also says it targeted technical and repair infrastructure, along with fighter jet deployment sites, at two bases hosting US forces in Jordan.
The claimed targets were King Hussein Air Base and Muwaffaq al Salti Air Base.
According to Younes Shadlou, an IRIB military correspondent, Iran also used Kheybar Shekan missiles in the attacks.

UAE Denies Reports Of Missile Attack On Al Minhad Air Base
The UAE’s Ministry of Defence has denied reports that Al Minhad Air Base was attacked by missiles, saying the claims are false.
The denial came after Iranian media reported early on Monday that Iran’s army had attacked the base with drones.
Iranian media described the claimed attack as a response to the killing of Revolutionary Guards and Iranian civilians on Larak Island.
The UAE said the reports of a missile attack were untrue.
