A woman who died in a serious three-car collision in Halifax has been named locally as Zulekha, as tributes continue to be paid and prayers are requested for her husband, who is reported to be seriously injured.
The woman, who was in her 40s, died following a collision on the A647 Queensbury Road near Boothtown on Sunday morning.
A poster circulating within the local community described her death as tragic and called for prayers for both Zulekha and her husband.
The husband has not been formally named in the appeal.
Three-Car Collision On Queensbury Road
The crash happened shortly before 10.45am on September 20, north of the junction with Howcans Lane.
Police said a Honda Civic travelling towards Queensbury collided with a Seat Leon travelling in the opposite direction.
A VW Golf, which was also travelling in the opposite direction, was damaged during the incident.
Zulekha was travelling as a rear-seat passenger in the Honda.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three other people suffered serious injuries and were taken to hospital.
Five Ambulances And Air Ambulance Sent
Yorkshire Ambulance Service said it received an emergency call at 10.47am reporting a road traffic collision on Queensbury Road near Boothtown.
Five ambulances and the air ambulance were dispatched.
Four patients were taken to hospital.
The road was closed while emergency services dealt with the scene.
Witnesses described a substantial emergency response, with one person saying members of the public had attempted to help before emergency crews arrived.
Two Drivers Arrested
The driver of the VW Golf, a man, was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and causing death by dangerous driving.
He has since been released on bail while enquiries continue.
The driver of the Seat Leon, also a man, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and was also released on bail.
The arrests do not amount to findings of guilt and the investigation remains ongoing.
Police Appeal For Witnesses
West Yorkshire Police’s Major Collision Enquiry Team is appealing for witnesses to the crash.
Officers are also asking anyone who may have dashcam, CCTV or other footage showing the collision or the moments leading up to it to come forward.
Family Described As ‘Friendly’ And ‘Lovely’
Among those paying tribute to Zulekha is Halifax businessman Imran Shabir, who said he had known the family for several years through his ice cream business.
He said the family had been customers for around four or five years and that he would often see Zulekha’s husband and daughter during deliveries.
Mr Shabir described the family as “friendly” and “lovely”.
He said there was “a lot of love and respect” within the household.
The family were said to live in the King Cross and Hyde Park area of Halifax.
‘Halifax Is A Close-Knit Place’
Mr Shabir said news of Zulekha’s death had spread rapidly through the local community.
He described Halifax as a close-knit place where many residents know one another directly or through family and community connections.
He said it had been particularly upsetting to learn that “an innocent life” had been lost.
He also expressed concern about dangerous and drug-impaired driving, saying such behaviour “needs to stop”.
Community Pays Tribute
Messages of condolence have continued to be shared online.
One person offered their “deepest sympathies” to everyone involved and their families.
Another described the emergency response as enormous and praised both emergency workers and members of the public who tried to assist at the scene.
Police enquiries into the circumstances of the collision remain ongoing.
