In an update from the Metropolitan Police, a man and woman who were hospitalized after a funfair ride malfunctioned at the Lambeth Country Show in Brockwell Park, south London, are no longer considered to be in a life-threatening condition. Initially, the police had reported that the pair, both in their 40s, sustained “life-threatening injuries,” but their condition has since stabilized.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday evening, also saw two other individuals injured—a man in his 50s and an 11-year-old girl—both of whom have now been discharged from the hospital.

Emergency services responded quickly to the scene shortly after the malfunction at 18:20 BST. As a precautionary measure, all funfair rides were closed on Sunday, and additional safety checks are being carried out on all rides and attractions at the event.

One of the rides was seen covered in tarpaulin, though it remains unclear which ride was involved in the incident. The Lambeth Council has stated that thorough inspections and safety protocols are being enforced to ensure the safety of all attendees.

The Metropolitan Police and the Health and Safety Executive continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the malfunction. “Officers have attended the scene on Sunday alongside the Health and Safety Executive as enquiries continue to establish the full circumstances,” a spokesperson from the Met Police said.

The Lambeth Country Show, a free event, attracts numerous visitors with its funfair rides and other attractions. The safety of these attractions is now under increased scrutiny as investigators work to determine the cause of the malfunction.
