The judge deemed him a dangerous offender.

Victim Says She Still Fears He Will Kill Her

In a statement read to the court, the woman described the lasting impact of the abuse.

“I am always scared,” she said.

She told the court she continued to experience recurring thoughts that Ali would kill her.

“It is difficult to describe all the ways my life has been affected,” she said.

“Although I know that I have been brave to report what he did to me, I still get recurring thoughts every single day that he will kill me.”

‘It Was Also Empowering’

The victim also described giving evidence while Ali was present in court.

She said being in the same room as him had been extremely difficult.

“I was so scared to say everything out loud, having never told anyone these things before,” she said.

But she added that being able to speak openly about the abuse was also empowering.

Tracking App Used To Monitor Her

The court heard Ali used a tracking application to monitor the woman’s movements.

He also controlled her money and restricted her contact with relatives and friends.

The abuse included threats to kill her.

Sent Photograph Of Her Front Door

In January 2025, Ali sent messages warning that he was on his way to the woman’s home and would cause a scene if she did not answer.

He then sent her a photograph of her front door.

The following day, she contacted police and reported the abuse.

Called While Police Were At Her Home

While the woman was giving her initial account to officers, Ali began repeatedly calling and messaging her.

One message read: “WHY ARE POLICE OUTSIDE YOUR HOUSE?”

Police arrested him within 90 minutes of the 999 call.

Asked If Case Would ‘Go Away’

While being taken into custody, Ali asked officers: “If she drops the case, will it go away?”

He declined to answer most questions during his police interview.

The Crown Prosecution Service authorised charges within 24 hours.

Convicted Of Multiple Serious Offences

Ali denied the allegations but was convicted after trial.

The offences included multiple counts of rape, causing someone to engage in sexual activity without consent, coercive and controlling behaviour, threats to kill, blackmail, threatening to disclose private images and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Dangerous Offender Finding

Ali was sentenced to 17 years and six months in prison.

He will serve at least two-thirds of that term before he can be considered for release.

A further five years will be served on extended licence.

The court also imposed an indefinite restraining order protecting the victim.

Sexual Harm Prevention Order Imposed

Ali was also made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

He will remain on the sex offenders register for life.

Police Praise Victim’s Courage

Investigating officer DC Cummins praised the woman for continuing to support the case throughout the investigation and trial.

“The victim has displayed incredible courage in coming forward and reporting these offences,” the officer said.

DC Cummins said the woman had shown resilience throughout the process and had been supported by Sexual Offences Liaison Officer DC Hughes.

The officer described Ali as a “truly dangerous offender” and said the woman was now able to begin rebuilding her life.
