One person was killed and at least 24 others injured in a mass shooting in Akron, Ohio, early Saturday morning. The shooting occurred just after midnight near Kelly Street and 8th Avenue.

Local media reported that officers arriving at the scene discovered dozens of bullet casings and a gun. The Akron Police Department confirmed that at least 25 people had been shot, one fatally. While many of the injuries are non-life-threatening, some victims are reported to be in a more serious condition.

No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been identified as the investigation continues. In a statement, the Akron Police Department assured the public that efforts are being made to uncover the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Akron Mayor Shammas Malik and Police Chief Brian Harding issued a joint statement on social media, expressing their commitment to justice and public safety. “Our city is reeling after the devastation of senseless violence,” they said. “With more than two dozen victims, the pain and trauma reverberates across all of Akron today as we search for answers.”

The statement also encouraged anyone with information about the incident to come forward, promising anonymity to those who do. “We need you to speak up in order to prevent further violence and retaliation,” the officials urged.

Mayor Malik and Chief Harding emphasized that the city government and Akron Police Department are prioritizing public safety as they work to end gun violence in the community.
