Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa has firmly stated that he has no interest in extending his tenure, even if an extension is granted to all judges. His remarks came during an informal conversation with journalists, where he addressed recent comments by the Prime Minister’s adviser, Rana Sanaullah, about the possibility of tenure extensions for judges.

CJP Isa clarified that in a recent meeting with Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, and the attorney general, discussions had taken place about the possibility of extending the tenure of all judges. However, he emphasized that he would not accept any such extension for himself. “Do it for others; I will not accept it only for myself,” he stated unequivocally.

In response to queries about a pending case involving a letter from six judges, CJP Isa explained that scheduling the hearing depended on the availability of a bench, which had been delayed due to the illness of Justice Mussarat Hilali.
