Irish police have launched a murder investigation after the disappearance of eight-year-old Kyran Durnin from his home in Drogheda, County Louth, seven weeks ago. Kyran was last seen on 30 August, and despite extensive searches and enquiries, no trace of the boy has been found. Authorities now believe Kyran is presumed dead.

In a statement, the police said, “Following enquiries to date, investigating police now believe that Kyran is missing, presumed dead. A murder investigation has been commenced.” No arrests have been made so far, and the investigation remains ongoing. Ireland’s Child and Family Agency, Tulsa, is working closely with police in the case.

The police have appealed to the public for any information that might help the investigation. “Any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, will be welcomed by the investigation team. This information will be treated in the strictest confidence,” a police spokeswoman said.

Kyran went missing alongside his mother, Dayla, who left a concerning note behind before disappearing. Dayla’s mother, Rhonda Byrne Tyson, who is caring for Dayla’s other two children, recalled that the pair were last seen asleep on the couch before they vanished overnight. She found a note from Dayla stating that she needed to “get away for a few days.”

Rhonda expressed deep concern for her daughter’s health, as Dayla was recently diagnosed with type one diabetes and requires regular insulin injections. “I’m worried sick. I know that she got a supply of medication recently, but I’m terrified about what will happen when that runs out,” she said.

The police are continuing their efforts to locate both Kyran and Dayla, as the investigation into Kyran’s presumed death intensifies.
