A 15-year-old boy has died after being stabbed at All Saints Catholic High School in Sheffield. The victim, named in reports as Harvey Willgoose, was attacked in the school courtyard at approximately 12:17 GMT on Monday.

Police have detained a 15-year-old pupil on suspicion of murder, and he remains in custody for questioning. Reports indicate that the two teenagers had exchanged threatening messages prior to the incident.

Eyewitnesses state that Harvey was stabbed three times while pupils moved between classes. Teachers provided emergency first aid as the school went into lockdown, and an air ambulance was dispatched. Despite efforts from emergency services, he died shortly after being taken to hospital.

Harvey’s sister, Sophie, expressed her grief on social media, stating, “My heart is broken into a million pieces. I love you so much, Harvey… Hug your loved ones a little tighter tonight cos I wish I could.” His mother, Caroline, posted photographs of her son on TikTok.

Tributes have been paid by pupils and the local community. A 17-year-old student described Harvey as a well-liked individual, saying, “He was such a lovely lad, he was cheeky but was lovely. Teachers loved him, students loved him, everyone loved him.”

A 14-year-old pupil, who was placed in lockdown for over three hours, recounted the experience, stating, “It was stressful. Some people were in the sports hall, some in different classrooms. It was so hot in there because all the radiators were on. It’s hard to believe.”

Neighbours gathered outside Harvey’s family home, where a shrine of flowers and candles was placed. One neighbour said, “He went to school this morning and has not come home. He always seemed to have a smile on his face. So sad.” Another noted, “He and his dad were huge Sheffield United fans. It is just too awful for words.”

The stabbing follows a separate security incident at the school last Wednesday when reports emerged that a pupil had brought a blade onto the premises.

South Yorkshire Police Assistant Chief Constable Lindsey Butterfield stated, “We know that what has happened will cause significant distress and concern. Our officers will remain on scene and in the local area to offer reassurance to parents, staff and local residents as our investigation continues.”

South Yorkshire Mayor Oliver Coppard expressed condolences, saying, “This morning a teenage boy went to school like thousands of others across South Yorkshire but won’t come home. A young man who was a member of our community, with his whole life ahead of him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”

Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer commented on the incident, stating, “My heart goes out to the family and loved ones of the boy, the staff and students at the school, and the entire community of Sheffield. Our schools should be places of safety and learning, not violence and fear.”

The investigation remains ongoing as police continue to assess the events leading up to the fatal attack.
