A 21-year-old university student found with multiple stab wounds in a garden in Filton, Bristol, has been named as Jamie Collins, as his housemate has been charged with murder.
Police were called in the early hours of Thursday, 9 April, after Collins was discovered in a garden at the rear of a property on Cleve Road, where he lived in a shared house.
Avon and Somerset Police confirmed that Zack Coughlan, 23, who also lived at the address and studied at the University of the West of England, has been charged with murder.
Coughlan was arrested on Sunday following the discovery of Collins body and has since been remanded in custody. He is due to appear at Bristol Magistrates Court.
Detective Chief Inspector Lucy Edgeworth, of the Major Crime Investigation Team, said the Crown Prosecution Service had authorised the charge. She added that while formal identification had not yet been completed, Collins name was being released with his family knowledge as it will form part of court proceedings.
Collins family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers. Police have asked for their privacy to be respected.
Officers have been carrying out high-visibility patrols in the area following the incident, while further enquiries are expected to continue around Cleve Road in the coming days.
Police said they are working closely with the University of the West of England to ensure support is available to students and staff affected by the incident.
Detectives added that people who knew Collins will be “understandably shocked and hugely saddened” by his death.
