Police Seize 59 Nitrous Oxide Canisters In Dewsbury Drugs Raid

Police have seized large quantities of nitrous oxide along with suspected steroids and illegal tobacco products during a raid at a business in Dewsbury.

Officers forced entry to premises on Huddersfield Road on Wednesday morning as part of an investigation into the suspected supply of illegal drugs in Ravensthorpe.

West Yorkshire Police said enquiries remain ongoing.

59 Nitrous Oxide Canisters Recovered

Police said 59 nitrous oxide canisters worth more than £1,000 were recovered during the operation.

Some of the canisters were found inside the premises while others were seized from a parked vehicle.

Suspected Steroids Also Seized

Officers also recovered six boxes of suspected steroids.

Illegal cigarettes and vapes valued at around £2,000 were seized from the premises.

Police did not announce any arrests in the information released about the operation.

Specialist Officers Took Part

Specialist officers using advanced methods of entry were involved in executing the warrant.

A West Yorkshire Police drugs dog and handler also took part.

The raid formed part of a wider programme of work by police and partner agencies aimed at reducing crime in Ravensthorpe.

Police Warn Of Nitrous Oxide Risks

Police said misuse of nitrous oxide has been linked to serious health risks including oxygen deprivation, nerve damage, heart problems and mental health effects.

Its misuse has also been linked to road deaths.

‘Real Priority’ For Police

Inspector Amanda Holroyd, of Kirklees Police, said the warrant had led to the seizure of significant quantities of nitrous oxide and suspected steroids.

She said illegal drug supply and the violence associated with it remained a major concern for communities.

“The illegal supply of drugs and the associated violent crime it so often brings is a blight on communities and tackling this kind of offending is a real priority for us in Ravensthorpe,” she said.

Enquiries Continue

Inspector Holroyd said police would continue targeting the illegal use and supply of nitrous oxide.

She urged anyone with information about drug crime in Ravensthorpe to contact police or Crimestoppers anonymously.

The investigation remains ongoing.
