The attempted coup in Bolivia has failed. Soldiers and armored vehicles have retreated from Murillo Square, the seat of the Bolivian government, following the inauguration of the new military high command. General Juan José Zúñiga, who had led the military movements, has also left the scene.

President Luis Arce, surrounded by his ministers, had earlier called on Bolivians to mobilize in defense of democracy and condemned the coup attempt. The swift changes in military leadership and the strong stance taken by the government appear to have contributed to the failure of the coup.

Images from the scene show the departure of armored vehicles and military personnel, marking the end of the immediate threat to the democratically elected government. The events have underscored the volatile political climate in Bolivia and the resilience of its democratic institutions.
