A 34-year-old woman and her seven-year-old son have died after getting into difficulty in the water at a park in west London.

Police were called to Elthorne Park in Ealing at 4.29pm on Saturday after reports of two people in the water.

Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service and London Fire Brigade, and recovered the woman and child from the water.

Despite emergency crews providing urgent medical care, both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The Metropolitan Police said further enquiries have now established that the deaths were the result of a tragic accident and are being treated as non-suspicious.

The force confirmed the two victims were a mother and son, aged 34 and seven.

Police said next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

In an updated statement, the Met said the family had asked for privacy at what it described as an “incredibly difficult time”.

The force also thanked members of the public and emergency services who responded to the incident and tried to help.
