Two Jewish men have suffered serious injuries after a stabbing in Golders Green, north London, in an attack reported to have targeted Jewish people in the area. A man has been arrested.
Reports from the scene said a man armed with a knife was seen running along the high street before the incident. The Times reported that the suspect was detained by Shomrim, the Jewish community security group, before police arrived and used a Taser during the arrest.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the stabbing as “deeply concerning” and said an investigation was under way.
Local reports have said one stabbing took place on Golders Green Road outside shops and another on a side road near a synagogue, with armed police later locking down nearby streets. Those details have circulated in witness reporting, while police have so far only publicly confirmed that two people were stabbed and a man was arrested.
The attack comes amid heightened concern in Golders Green following a series of recent incidents involving Jewish-linked sites in north London, including arson attacks on Hatzola ambulances and other locations that are being investigated by counter-terror police.
Video circulating online appears to show the suspect being arrested and Tasered, but that footage has not been independently verified by BPI News.
Police enquiries are continuing.
