Four people have been taken to hospital after gunmen opened fire from a vehicle in Brixton in the early hours of Saturday, leaving one man fighting for his life.
The Metropolitan Police said officers were called to Coldharbour Lane at about 1.14am following reports of gunshots. Police arrived within four minutes and began giving first aid alongside paramedics.
A 25-year-old man remains in a life-threatening condition in hospital. Three other victims, aged 21, 47 and 70, also suffered gunshot wounds. Police said their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.
The shooting happened on Coldharbour Lane near Southwyk House, with part of the road remaining cordoned off on Saturday as officers carried out searches at the scene.
The London Ambulance Service said crews treated four patients at the scene before taking two to a major trauma centre and two to a local hospital.
Detective Chief Inspector Allam Bhangoo described the attack as an “act of indiscriminate violence” and said officers were working at pace to identify those responsible.
Police have not made any arrests so far.
Video shared online and said to show the aftermath appeared to capture one man receiving CPR on the pavement while emergency services worked nearby. Another injured man appeared to be receiving treatment on a bench close to the scene. The footage has not been independently verified by BPI News.
The Met said there will be an increased police presence in Brixton over the coming days and urged anyone with information to come forward.
