Massive Security Operation Underway In Islamabad Ahead Of Expected Talks

Islamabad has entered a near-total security lockdown, with more than 20,000 police and paramilitary personnel deployed across the capital as preparations intensify for a possible second round of talks between the United States and Iran, according to information gathered by BPI News.

Security arrangements across the city have expanded significantly in recent days, with key infrastructure, roads and accommodation facilities placed under direct control.

Two major hotels, including the Serena Hotel, which hosted the first round of talks, have been effectively taken over, with guests asked to vacate and no new bookings being accepted, multiple hotel guests told BPI News.

These measures mirror those implemented during the first round of negotiations, when hotels were cleared, weddings cancelled and large sections of the capital placed under strict movement control.

Residents living along key convoy routes between Nur Khan Airbase and central Islamabad told BPI News they have been instructed not to record any movements, while security personnel have been deployed on rooftops overlooking these corridors.

City-Wide Lockdown And Advanced Security Measures Implemented

The scale of the operation extends far beyond standard diplomatic security.

Islamabad Traffic Police have confirmed sweeping closures across the city, including a full shutdown of the Red Zone and Extended Red Zone.

The Islamabad Expressway from Koral to Zero Point has been closed to all traffic, while movement on Srinagar Highway is being halted at intervals.

All heavy transport entering the capital has been suspended, with authorities issuing detailed diversion plans across major sectors including G-5, G-6, G-7, F-6 and F-7.

Police sources who are part of the layered protected ring around Islamabad told BPI News that police units have also been equipped with drone-jamming technology as part of the operation, indicating preparations for a high-risk, high-profile event.

Public and goods transport has been halted not only in Islamabad but also in Rawalpindi, where additional deployments have been made to secure key access routes.

Military Logistics And Diplomatic Movements Signal Imminent Activity

Further evidence of preparations has emerged from Nur Khan Airbase, where United States Air Force C-17 cargo aircraft have been filmed landing in recent days.

Footage reviewed by BPI News shows the aircraft transporting armoured vehicles, trucks and logistical equipment, suggesting the build-up of infrastructure required to support a major diplomatic or security operation.

Security sources with knowledge of the arrangements said these movements form part of the logistical backbone for anticipated high-level engagements in Islamabad.

At the same time, Pakistan’s army chief, Asim Munir, is understood to have raised concerns with Donald J. Trump regarding the impact of the US naval blockade on Iran’s willingness to engage in talks.

According to information obtained by BPI News, Field Marhsal Munir told Trump that the blockade of Iranian ports was hindering diplomatic progress, with the US president indicating he would consider the matter.

Iran Publicly Denies Talks As Ground Reality Suggests Otherwise

Despite the scale of preparations in Islamabad, Iran has publicly signalled hesitation.

Foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei said:
“As of now… we have no plans for the next round of negotiation, and no decision has been made in this regard.”

Separately, Iran has informed the United States through Pakistan that it does not intend to hold another round of talks in Islamabad until the naval blockade on Iranian ports is lifted.

However, multiple sources told BPI News that Iranian officials have been instructed to remain ready to travel to Islamabad at very short notice.

Security officials involved in the operation said the level of preparation underway in the Pakistani capital is not consistent with a cancelled or postponed diplomatic engagement.

BPI News Reporting Indicates Talks May Still Proceed

The contradiction between Iran’s public statements and the scale of preparations on the ground has become increasingly apparent.

BPI News previously reported that Islamabad was moving towards lockdown conditions consistent with high-level diplomatic activity, based on security sources, resident accounts and logistical movements.

Those indicators including hotel clearances, transport shutdowns, convoy restrictions and military cargo arrivals have now intensified further.

Security sources involved in the security operation told BPI News that such arrangements are typically only implemented when diplomatic engagements are expected to proceed, even if final confirmations remain fluid.

With the ceasefire deadline approaching and backchannel diplomacy continuing at pace, the situation remains highly dynamic.

However, the scale and depth of the security operation in Islamabad suggests that, despite public messaging from Tehran, preparations for talks are still actively underway.
